Fear Outclass Greenville

 Cape Fear: 67Greenville Griffins: 10

What was expected to be a miserable wet and windy day at Flytrap Downs, actually turned out to be a beautiful spring day with the sun shining which left perfect conditions for a game of rugby.

Knowing that Greenville was making the 5 hour bus trip with a number of key players missing, Fear were confident that their weakened starting 15 would be able to perform. Fear got off to the best possible start after retaining possession from the kick off and a well worked backs move put Jason Gruner in for his first of 4 tries for the afternoon. Fear’s game plan was to keep the ball away from Greenville’s strong powerful forwards, this gave the backs plenty of ball to run with and exploit the gaps out wide. There was a steady trickle of points in the first half for Fear, Matthew Williams exploiting the strong tail wind to pin Greenville back in their own half at every opportunity. Half time score Cape Fear 32 Greenville Griffins 0.

The second half started off much the same as the first with Fear Scoring from the restart. Credit where credit is due Greenville never gave up and their big powerful pack crashed over for two tries midway through the second half, but Fear then took back control of the game by finishing with a flurry of tries. Scorers included Ryan Glass, Drew Gonzalez, Keith Markfield, and Matthew Williams. This now leaves Fear in second position in the table and a strong possibility of heading to the playoffs. Final matrix match is March 22nd against Charlotte B.
